Fair Festivities

Today, we took Ginny to her first county fair!!!

We meant to take her last year, but never made it. In any case, I think this is the first year that she could thoroughly enjoy it...and she loved it! The food! The animals!! The rides! And, of course, the pig races!

We started off, of course, with some food. We tried to make it semi-healthy with sweet potatoes (hey, I can't control how they cooked them)

Yummy! Then, it was off for some chocolate covered bacon, deep fried butter, and for dessert, deep fried avocados!!!!

ha ha - just kidding!

After watching some cloggers (they tried to recruit Ginny!), we were off to see the animals! Ginny loved it! There was an abundance of goats, but Ginny wanted to say hello to each and every one of them!

This one was quite vocal-it scared ginny a bit, so she insisted I pick her up. Once she was out of "harm's way", she was back to chirping and saying hello back to the goat!

This year's theme at the fair was taste the fair, and we found people carving statues out of butter!!! That's right-those figurines behind Darwin are made entirely out of butter! (I just read in the paper that the enclosure is kept between 55 and 60 degrees.

It would not be a trip to the fair without watching a round of pig races!!! Ours was the pig in the green cover...

He didn't win that round...Ginny had mixed emotions over our pig not winning, but the joy of watching the pig races while eating a California burrito.

Hi bunnies! We saw some bunnies that were white with PINK eyes! Serious!

Ginny and Mommy in front of a giant avocado...I wonder how they get that whole thing into a deep fryer...

Too cool for shades.

Last, we went on rides. Ginny and Mommy rode the choo-choo with a animal theme (how appropriate for our day).

Choo-choo! Wow this thing goes fast!

All in all, a great day at the fair. Ginny can't wait for next year!

Sunday at the Beach

After church, we spent this morning at the beach. we got there nice and early to avoid the crowds.

Ginny was much braver this time, and actually went in the water with her Daddy! She went in at least 4 times for 5-10 minute spurts-she loved it! Mommy stayed behind to watch all of our stuff, up on the beach.

The marine layer never broke while we were there (it was about to when we arrived, but instead, it pushed further inland), so we only stayed for a few hours.

Hooray for the beach! I'm sure this will be just one of our many visits there this summer.
